La Portegna was founded in 2009, inspired by a lion pelt gifted to the founder's grandfather from Ernest Hemingway and a cruise his grandmother took between Plymouth and Bombay in 1933. This journey and Hemingway's autographed photograph are a tribute to a time when travel was a life experience rather than just going from one place to another.
